With 2020 being a year full of uncertainty for organizations and the world as a whole, we’re stepping into 2021 with more confidence. While the pandemic is far from being over, organizations are now more comfortable with a work-from-home system. They are working on improving the experience for employees and organization alike. Here are some HR trends that are expected this year:
Work from home is here to stay
When the pandemic first began to spread its roots across the globe, many countries’ governments announced national emergency and lockdowns were imposed. Only essential businesses were allowed to operate, while all other businesses were expected to operate remotely. Since the transition to working from home was quite drastic, many businesses struggled to cope. However, with the way the pandemic has unfolded, it’s become quite clear that remote working is here to stay.
Home is the new office, and organizations have to come to terms with it. So, companies must create policies and incorporate systems that help streamline the work-from-home system. Similarly, employers should look into ways to boost employee morale since working from home can be quite isolating.
Most organizations have trainings every few months, annually, or biannually, depending on the market trends and shifts in technology. Don’t slack off on trainings this year. Look for ways to conduct an enriching online training session to help employees learn. Online training sessions should be interactive and fun and carried out regularly. Moreover, give employees the chance to reach out to their line manager when they feel there’s something the team needs to be trained for.
Reinventing the employee experience
In the pre-COVID world, applicants would apply for a job, go through various rounds of interviews/ assessments, and finally get the job. The new recruit would then become part of an employee orientation, after which they are welcomed by the team. Now think of this entire process, barring the personal contact. Organizations need to look into ways to encourage this interaction, but online.
The HR of a company needs to rethink and reinvent the employee journey to match these new times. Work-life-balance, employee wellbeing, collaboration, connection, etc., are all essential for employee satisfaction.
