Newborn photoshoots mark the first tangible memories of parenthood.
As a new parent, you may be overwhelmed by the demands of the new journey. You’ll be so engrossed in diapers, feeding, burping, and catching up on sleep that slowing down and soaking in the present becomes nearly impossible.
A newborn photoshoot is a great way to celebrate your little one’s innocence and capture the essence of this fleeting stage.
Getting your baby photographed at this stage will give you beautiful memories that you can hold on to for life. We recommend you book a newborn photoshoot with an experienced photographer who’s careful and strategic.
Artin Photography CA. offers newborn photography sessions in Vancouver and Port Coquitlam in British Columbia. The founder, Mary, is highly passionate and driven in capturing the many phases of babyhood.
Here are a few things you must know before getting your newborn photographed:
#1 – It’s Safe
Most new parents are reluctant to get their child photographed because of safety concerns—and rightly so.
However, we’re here to tell you that unless you’ve hired a rookie, these shoots are safe and baby-friendly.
The best photographers are well-versed in creating a multitude of poses while ensuring the baby’s head and neck are supported. They’re also qualified to notice any signs of discomfort or paling of the skin to act promptly.
#2 – The Creative Poses
Almost every client that comes in for a session has a few poses in mind. Moreover, every photographer has their signature poses that you can check out in their portfolio.
Here are a few poses you need to know about:
- The Tushy-up Pose: This pose reveals the curl of the newborn’s body by making the baby lie on their tummies with their tushy pushed outward. It’s usually done with only a diaper on.
- The Frog Pose: In this pose, the newborn sits in a rather adorable pose with their chin resting on both the palms while the legs extend from the two sides like the limbs of the frog.
- Wrapped Pose: This happens to be Mary at Artin Photography’s favorite. The baby is swaddled in a fancy cover so that they look snug and warm.
- On-the-back: While the baby lies on its back, props are used to add dimensions to the image.

#3–What to Expect from the Session
Your newborn photography session should be about 2-3 hours long to allow time for diaper changes, feeding sessions, and anything that may arise unexpectedly.
You’ll get full access to the studio’s collection of props so that you can pick and choose and get a variety of pictures. Additionally, this is also the perfect time to get family or sibling portraits in high-resolution digital files.
A compassionate photographer will work with you so that you have a smooth and comfortable experience.
